A short journey out of London will take you to the Queen's favorite residence Windsor Castle dating from the 12th Century, or visit Hampton Court Palace, the Tudor Palace of Henry VIII with its Great Hall and Tudor Kitchens. Either of these tour destinations can be completed in a morning or afternoon or alternatively combine them both into a full day.

Stratford upon Avon is the birthplace of the Great Bard, William Shakespeare and only a few miles away is Warwick Castle built on the site of Ethelfleda, daughter of Alfred the Great (he who burnt the cakes) daughter's castle. The Royal weekend created by Madame Tussaud can be seen in the Private Apartments, or you may wish to wander through the Earl of Warwick's Castle.

Windsor CastleTake a full day tour to Oxford the ancient university city, once described by Matthew Arnold as the city of dreaming spires. Close by is Blenheim Palace, the only Palace not lived in by the Royal Family but the home of the Dukes of Marlborough, Sir Winston Churchill's ancestor.

Just north of London is Cambridge another of England's famous university cities, which was also the home of thousands of U.S. airmen during World War II. This could be combined with visits to the magnificent Ely Cathedral or the National Stud at Newmarket. Nearby is Duxford, part of the Imperial War Museum housing military aircraft, armored fighting vehicles and midget submarines.

Close to London is the county of Kent, known as the Garden of England with its many Stately Homes and Gardens. Here we find Chartwell, the home of Sir Winston Churchill, and nearby the 16th century Igtham Mote and Hever Castle where Anne Boleyn lived.

Stratford on AvonSet in beautiful surroundings and in the middle of a lake is Leeds Castle.

The port of Dover with its famous white cliffs are usually part of the Kent touras is .the medieval City of Canterbury. See the Cathedral where Thomas Becket was murdered and the inspiration of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

To go further a field visit Stonehenge the monument dating from 3,500 BC and finally on to the beautiful Georgian City of Bath where you will find the famous spa and Roman Baths. The City of Bath is home of the Bath Bun, Visit Sally Lunns restaurant dating from the 15th century and the wonderful Bath Abbey, know as the 'Lantern of the west' because of the large amount of glass used in the abbey.
